Bleaching
Teeth should always be healthy and stand upright, but more and more people also wish them to appear floral white. This is indeed possible in many cases. Modern dentistry have developed procedures by which a single tooth or entire rows of teeth can be optically brightened up. Often exogenic discolorations are owed to frequent consumption of tea, coffee, red wine and nicotine. Sometimes however, more yellowish or gray enamel occurs naturally
Bleaching vital Teeth
When bleaching at home (home bleaching) a special gel is used. As a carrier for the bleach a custom-made plastic rail is used, which should be worn about 2 hours a day. Depending on the discoloration of the teeth treatments have to be pepested several times. Temporary tooth sensitivity may arise, usually ebbing after 3 days.
When bleaching in practice (in office bleaching) a high-speed gel is used, which leads to the desired color much faster. Gums have to be covered so that the gel only comes in contact with the teeth. Transient sensitivities of the teeth occur more frequently than with home bleaching.
Thermo-catalytic procedures with special lamps (additional light and heat) accelerate the bleaching process.
Bleaching root-canal-treated teeth
Even teeth that had been root-canal-treated, can be bleached, too. The chemically active substance can directly be inserted into the root canal of the tooth with the walking-bleach- method. This requires an X-ray. The dentist will renew the substance regularly, until the desired whitening is achieved.
What you should be aware of when bleaching!
It is a bit of help to nature and your teeth appear bright again. A 100-percent success can not be guaranteed, however. The teeth should be healthy, clean and free of tartar.
The bleach can only brighten teeth, but not tooth-colored fillings. After bleaching filling color and tooth color can no longer match. In this case visible fillings are replaced and perfectly adapted to the new color with high-quality materials. Bleached teeth tend to darken after 1½ to two years – sometimes even earlier. Therefore, bleaching needs to be repeated at regular intervals.
