Implants
What is an implant?
An implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium or ceramics. It is implanted into the jaw bone and knits together with the bone. This process is regularly inspected and takes 2-6 months depending on the method. Thereafter, the prosthesis will be attached to the implant:
Why is an implant recommended?
After decades of scientific research implants have performed excellently in practice and offer many advantages:
- The dentures do not slip and do not fall out.
- With implants there is no need to grind intact neighboring teeth, as would be necessary with bridge work.
- An implant is also excellently suited as a stable fundament to fit a prosthesis.
- Inflammations are significantly reduced due to avoiding pressure points caused by a prosthesis.
- Had the loss of one or more teeth been caused by an accident, an implant can be an ideal alternative to bridge work or removable dental prosthesis.
What is the result of an implant?
Where teeth are missing, jaw-bones where teeth are missing deteriorate over the time. In certain cases this deterioration is promoted by removable dentures. It can frequently be observed that the jaw-bone is preserved if an inserted implant strains it – like a natural tooth would. The initial situation can be restored and debate, sense of taste and facial expressions are retained.
What’s more, psychological stress, which the wearing of a removable dental prosthesis sometimes brings about, is avoided. This means: an implant not only provides functional benefits; greater self-esteem and quality of life are the additional advantages.
